Group-building

Human Medley

A connection-building activity to get your participants to get to know each other better beyond the usual introductions, welcoming all to begin relating with each other from their own authentic selves.

Use this activity to deepen and catalyze an effective group forming process. Whether in a physical or digital setting, the human medley is a networking activity that allows for the participants to share vulnerably and thus build faster deeper connections and safety within the group.

  • Invite all to stand up and start walking and exploring the space in silence
  • Intice presence as you ask everyone to look for something about the room that have not noticed before / focus on their feet touching the ground / pay attnetion to the sounds / smells around
  • Evantually let them know to stop, or freeze and find the closest person to them to be a partner in a dialogue on a question
  • Share the question and provide a few minutes for each pair to share with each other
  • Then invite all to continue walking and follow up with few other runds of questions in pairs as people connect with each other

Below are a few examples for questions that the pairs could discuss in 4 rounds:

Round 1:

  • Which trip changed your life for the better?

———————–

Round 2:

  • What’s your super power and what’s your kryptonite?

———————–

Round 3:

  • If people came with a warning label – what would yours say?

———————–

 Round 4:

  • What’s your instinctive reaction when someone or something hurts you?

———————–

Depending on the size, structure, and vibe of the group choose questions that you feel are appropriate to start with, and then be brave to go towards the ones that offer more vulnerable sharing.

This same activity can be done digitally, by setting up a few rounds of break-out rooms of 2-3 people to share, being randomized for each next round, and with quick sharing in the chat in between the rounds.
